Andrea Fisher

Dr. Andrea M. Fisher is a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland. She earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Elementary School Counseling from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Dr. Fisher worked as a middle school counselor in Fairfax County Public Schools for several years before entering The American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University for her Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.).

Dr. Fisher completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although the focus of her internship was child therapy, it also involved an adult partial hospitalization rotation and neuropsychology rotation.  Additionally, Dr. Fisher provided Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (an evidenced-based treatment) with children at The Allegheny General Hospital Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents.   

 Dr. Fisher completed her post-doctoral work in Philadelphia where she worked at Children’s Crisis Treatment Center. As a trauma-focused clinician, Dr. Fisher provided outpatient, individual and family therapy, and community-based interventions to children aged 3 to 14 years old who had experienced a wide range of trauma.

 Dr. Fisher returned to the Washington, DC area in 2007. She worked in a group practice for a short time before she went to work with the DC Department of Behavioral Health / School Mental Health Program. At this position, she provided mental health services to elementary and middle school aged children and families. While with DC Government, Dr. Fisher started her private practice in 2009. 

After leaving DC government, Dr. Fisher focused on building her private practice while also returning to working with children who have experienced trauma at The Gil Institute for Trauma Recovery and Education. 

Additionally, Dr. Fisher is a 2013 graduate of the Washington School of Psychiatry’s two-year postgraduate certificate program in Child and Adolescent psychotherapy. In addition she is a 2021 graduate of The Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis Psychoanalytic Studies Program. Both programs focused on learning about psychoanalytic approaches to psychotherapy to enrich the practice of psychotherapy. 

 Dr. Fisher's extensive work with children, adolescents, and families sparked an interest in assisting parents to effectively co-parent.
